<description>Wise Words is an audio visual interactive installation part of the new museum IDEAS CITY festival. It features personal stories in the city from the perspective of older generation of women from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

The interactive installation represents the social groups older women formed to pass time, gossip and reminisce about the past. The information shared during these sessions, whether it be an old recipe or a love story, can be deemed priceless and a great representation of the cultural mores of their time. We believe this can be used to reconstruct a more valid social history than we have found in history books and media. Each story is presented in a physical frame with additional information presented in the form of graphics or physical objects. The stories are triggered by touching familiar objects from the lives of the women. Our hope is that this project will help pave the way for inter-generational interaction and curiosity to create a more inclusive and aware urban society.

<description>Amber Waves is inspired by Open Source Ecology projects and the work it is doing around empowering a future of sustainable, vernacular, and decentralized food production. The wave is a data visualization of food items from all over the world which indicates food price fluctuations from 2005 to 2012.. The installation is another data point around the the reason why food production needs to become more local and decentralized to reduce prices. This system will be democratized and decentralized thanks to the open source tools, organizations like Open Source Ecology are developing. Our installation is a snap shot of this work in progress and what needs to change to make the food system more transparent and traceable from farm to fork.

<description>Our Silent Lights September Fundraiser was a great event and fun party for all. We were touched by the turn out. Your generosity helped us get closer to our goal. We raised enough to be able to construct one more gate! Speaking of gates the first one of the Silent Lights sequence made its first public debut, check it out in these pictures below. Thank all our great partners that made this event possible: The Green Building for generously lending their amazing place and our food and wine sponsors for the evening:
Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Winery, Dish NYC Food &#38; Events, Dry Dock Wines, Fat Cat Wines, The Good Fork, Saipua, Six Point Brewery, Steve’s Key Lime Pie and Treats Truck.

<description>Faced with a concrete surface too unstable to attach the ARTfarm planters, the ARTfarm team decided to take an alternate route to their initial design. A competition was held to find an artist who could enliven the slope with their design rather than abandon such a huge part of the installation. Volunteers joined us for a weekend of "paint by numbers" work to transfer the winning entry of Oscar Lopez to the site. The neighborhood loved the mural and we successfully completed our project. It was a win-win situation! Check out the stop start motion video by Christopher Rosales.

<description>Green Indoor Plaza project was done in collaboration with AFHNY. This included the provision of 4-6 kiosks for the display of fresh fruits and vegetables for sale by La Esperanza to the community, as well as refrigerated storage, display graphics, and devoted space for handling transactions and disseminating information. The market was supposed to be located in the organization’s 1500sf main hall during the cold months and on their smaller outdoor patio during the warm months. It was desired that the kiosks be relatively lightweight, mobile, water-resistant, and easily-stored. The budget for the project was approximately $2,000 and was covered by La Esperanza and its benefactors.

<description>CLOVERS is a renewable energy education system that uses flexible solar panel technology designed like its namesake. It teaches teenagers (12-17 years old) about the electricity usage of their entertainment devices and allows them to help lower the family’s energy costs.
While small portable solar panel systems have been available for some time, this is the first that addresses the energy consumption of playtime devices such as TV’s and videogames. By installing a simple ‘fun’ meter in teenagers’ rooms they learn first-hand about renewable energy and the importance of giving back.

<description>Parking Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. It has spread to 162 Cities / 35 Countries / 6 Continents. Our attempt to transform a parking lot in NYC involved creating seating out of milk crates, waste cardboard packaging material, wooden palettes and sod. The space was used for art activities in the evening.

<description>This project was done as a proposal to a large pavement area in the 5 pedestrian plazas of Times Square. The intent was to bring in one common artistic intervention that would work bring together the busy landscape of lights without competing with it.

The inspiration for this design was an Art Deco interpretation of Ionic columns that intersect and play with the unique traffic of this intersection. The History of Times Square goes back to 1904 when it got its name from the subway station that opened in front of the New York Times Newspaper building. That same month, the first electric advertising sign went up. Later, the area was also area was dubbed “Great White Way” because it hosted 113 theater marquis’s within 13 square blocks of 42nd and Broadway. The Time Square district has been depicted in its “Glory days” with shows like Busby Berkley’s “42nd Street” and depicted in its Degenerate days by the movie “Midnight Cowboy.” But it’s most famous for the Century old “News Years Eve Celebration” hosting over 700,000 people and televised around the world.

Today the area is a-glow with the brightest mixture of primary colors, so the design should not compete but try to incorporate itself.
